Forsyth Barr broker Lyn Howe told the Otago Daily Times the eight-year low in economic outlook could lead to lower domestic freight activity.

This is despite a strong and growing transport sector, she says.

December results from the ANZ business confidence survey found 37.8% feel negative about the economy over the coming year.

This was up slightly from the November survey which showed a negative 39 % result.

“Uncertainty around changing Government policy, a softer housing market, and difficulty getting credit are likely culprits,” ANZ chief economist Sharon Zollner says.
