The stickers allow self-contained vehicles to stay in any allocated camping spots and comes after tightening of enforcement particularly in the New Plymouth region.

However, NZMCA national policy and planning manager James Imlach told Stuff.co.nz stickers have been illegally offered for sale online.

Security guards checking compliancy of campers need to be doing more than rely on the stickers. They should also check warrants on the front windscreen and certifications inside the vehicle, he says.

Imlach told Stuff the organisation is working with central and local government to work out how to best address regulation through the right administration authority and standards.
