Vehicle carrier Carmen has returned to Auckland after live brown marmorated stink bugs were found on the vessel in November.

The Wallenius Wilhelmsen-owned ship underwent voluntary fogging with insecticide outside New Zealand waters, Biosecurity New Zealand told AutoTalk.

“We have directed the vessel to undergo an additional round of fogging. This will be followed by intensive inspection by Biosecurity New Zealand officers,” the spokesman says.

The vessel won’t be allowed to unload its cargo until the additional fogging and inspection are complete.

The spokesman says no other vehicle carriers have been found with stink bugs since the Carmen left New Zealand waters in November.
