According to Export New Zealand despite the aviation fuel shortage at Auckland Airport, it is business as usual for overseas-bound airfreight with perishable goods receiving the highest priority.
Export New Zealand executive director Catherine Beard says the information she is receiving from industry sources, says that exporters are working on contingency plans and “workarounds” with their logistics providers and freight forwarders.
“The larger global freight forwarding operators will have contingency plans in place for moving cargo because these sorts of incidents crop up around the world from time to time,” says Beard.
“The aircraft will refuel on route to New Zealand, and I know that one large freight forwarder even brings in a supply of fuel for their use,” she says.
“As far as we are aware, its just business as usual for overseas-bound airfreight,” says Beard.
