The dollar rose yesterday on the strength of polls showing Britain is likely to stay in the EU.
That helped restore risk appetite and underpinned equity markets, commodities and growth-linked currencies like ours and the Aussie dollar.
The kiwi rose to 71.45 US cents from 71.12 cents late yesterday. The trade-weighted index rose to 75.87 from 75.40.
A UK poll showed support for it staying in the EU on 45% to 44 % keen leave, with 11% still undecided. Support for remaining in the regional economic bloc has climbed and bookmakers have odds of remaining at 73%.
