Another oil company is growing the number of suppliers reducing diesel prices at the pump.

BP decreased its national diesel price by six cents per litre, bringing diesel prices below one dollar on Friday.

BP Communications Manager Shelley Brady says further decreases in refined product costs for diesel had enabled BP to pass through the decrease across its company-owned network.

“We have removed 20 cents from BP’s national diesel price in a little over a month and this marks the sixth decrease we have had for diesel fuel since early December,” says Brady.

“International demand for diesel has continued to ease, so we are happy to have been able to have been able to pass on some significant savings to our diesel customers,” she says.

“We saw the Kiwi dollar drop further today which is unfortunately offsetting some of the cost of product improvements we are seeing.

“We don’t know exactly what the future will look like, but the NZ dollar remains volatile so we are watching for any exchange rate movements very closely,” says Brady.

BP has removed 11 cents from the national price of unleaded since early December but with little movement in refined product costs, BP is holding its current price for unleaded 91 at this stage.

“We monitor our prices every day and will continue to pass through decreases whenever we can.”

BP national prices as 11 January 2016:

91 Unleaded 184.9 cents per litre

95 Unleaded 193.9 cents per litre

Ultimate 98 201.9 cents per litre

Ultimate Diesel 99.9 cents per litre
