Popular host of the “Toll New Zealand Talking Trucks” television series, Bill Hohepa, is to host the vintage and classic trucks section of New Zealand’s only Transport and Heavy Equipment Expo (THE Expo).

THE Expo, held every four years, takes place March 7-9, 2013 at Mystery Creek Events Centre, Hamilton and is a showcase of the transport, heavy equipment, freight, forestry, construction and associated trades.

Owners of vintage and classic trucks are invited to display their vehicles at THE Expo where they will be able to enter a competition for the best presented classic truck. The competition will feature in a forthcoming episode of “Toll New Zealand Talking Trucks”.

Trucking enthusiast Hohepa will run a daily programme at THE Expo where he will interview owners of vintage trucks from the back of their vehicle, giving visitors an opportunity to learn about the history and amazing stories of the trucks.

“I am pleased to be associated with THE Expo and it will be an absolute pleasure hosting the classic truck section and providing some classic truck highlights as the weekend progresses,” says Hohepa.

Hohepa has hosted over 100 episodes of Talking Trucks on Cue TV via the Sky network since May 2009. He looks at New Zealand’s trucking history and speaks to men and women who have owned and driven some of the old trucks of yesteryear.

“I used to drive the old trucks back in the 1960s, and it’s been great to be able to make a television show about them.  I’m actually blown away by just how many have survived through to the present day…amazing really,” says Hohepa.

THE Expo provides a platform to showcase the diverse nature of the transport and heavy equipment industries. Over 35,000m2 of exhibition sites have now been applied for and companies interested in profiling their business at THE Expo are asked to get in touch while there are still sites available.

The event includes a training and recruitment village, seminars, live drive, power and performance zone plus a show ‘n’ shine competition.

The experienced Mystery Creek Events Centre team organises THE Expo with the support and input from industry associations; Motor Industry, NZ Truck-Trailer Manufacturers Federation and NZ Equipment Suppliers Association.

Classic truck owners wishing to register their vehicle for THE Expo should contact Bill Hohepa on (09) 536 5327 or billhohepa@xtra.co.nz
