Big Chill has expanded its fleet with a new batch of Scania R560 6×4 Euro 6 tractor units as part of an ongoing fleet renewal programme aimed at improving efficiency, reliability and reducing emissions.

The new trucks will operate across the cold-chain logistics company’s nationwide distribution network, transporting temperature-controlled freight throughout New Zealand.

Scania New Zealand managing director Victor Carvalho said the delivery reflected the manufacturer’s focus on providing transport solutions that combined performance, efficiency and long-term value.

“We are proud to support Big Chill as it continues to invest in a modern, efficient fleet that keeps essential cold-chain freight moving across New Zealand,” Carvalho said.

“In an operation where every delivery is time-critical, uptime is everything, and our nationwide service network is focused on giving Big Chill the confidence that support is there whenever and wherever it is needed.”

He said the Euro 6 R560 also aligned with the growing focus among operators on reducing emissions while maintaining performance and fuel efficiency.

Powered by Scania’s 13-litre Euro 6 engine and paired with the manufacturer’s latest G33 overdrive transmission, the R560 is designed to deliver improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions while maintaining performance for long-haul freight operations. The trucks are also equipped with advanced safety technologies including lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, active steering and side-impact airbags.

Big Chill chief executive Phil Clarke said the investment would help the company continue delivering dependable service to customers.

“Cold-chain logistics leaves no room for compromise. Our customers depend on Big Chill to deliver temperature-sensitive products safely and on time,” Clarke said.

“These new Scania trucks provide our drivers with safe, comfortable and highly capable equipment while helping us improve operational efficiency across our national network.”

Scania said demonstration trials conducted within Big Chill’s operation before the purchase showed improvements in fuel efficiency and received positive feedback from drivers. Combined with the lower-emission Euro 6 powertrain, the new fleet supports Big Chill’s focus on reliable and sustainable cold-chain transport.
