Two transport industry forums are being held over the next month, the Australian Trucking Convention, and the Commercial Vehicle Engineering Conference (ComVec)
The 2012 Australian Trucking Convention and Trucks on Show exhibition is being held at Rosehill Gardens event centre in west Sydney until Saturday 19 May, bringing together hundreds of business owners and managers, suppliers, manufacturers and industry representatives to discuss key industry issues.
A key feature will be a presentation by international safety leader Don Osterberg from Schneider National, the largest privately owned trucking company in America.
Osterberg brought impressive safety improvements to the company, along with strong productivity gains and business growth.
Topics covered at the convention include a business outlook for the trucking industry from Deloitte Access Economics; an overview of national trucking law changes; driver health, speed management and compliance.

ComVec will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on June 5-6 and will be the first time commercial vehicle technical staff will have a dedicated forum to hear from government, industry and business about issues that impact on them.
Performance-based standards assessor, Ken Cowell, says ComVec will give body builders their first opportunity to hear about not just regulation, but innovation.
“If you look at the industry as a whole, they have all sorts of conferences for other sections, but there is nothing focusing on body builders,” he says.
“It is about keeping up to date on developments, not just legislation but also innovation, knowing what is out there.
“This is the first conference about technology and technical things – it is not political, it is all about technical things for technical people.”
The topics covered at ComVec include:
– Redevelopment of the road vehicles certification system (RVCS)
– Electronic driver aids
– The next stage in heavy vehicle emissions control – ADR80/04?
– IAP & telematics
– Vehicle combination safety
– UNECE working party 29 – The setting of UN regulations & global technical regulation
– Energy security – the cost of energy in the future
– LNG – vehicle technology & infrastructure requirements
– Vehicles of the future
– Suspension & steering
– Rigid trucks – obstacles to innovation
– Modular B Triples, advanced intermodal solutions and future innovative combinations
– Demystifying performance-based standards
