The tug, named Sparky, is being built in Vietnam by Damen Shipyards and will be delivered to Auckland in late 2021.

The new tug, a Damen RSD-E Tug 2513, will have a 70 tonne bollard pull, the same as the port’s strongest diesel tug Hauraki, also built by Damen.

Damen posted a video of the tug making its first water launch at Song Cam Shipyard last week.
