Foodstuff’s subsidiary, AF Logistics (AFL), has doubled the size of its base to more than 11,800 square metres.
The expansion is part of a $3 million spend which extensively enlarged and upgraded a warehouse in Seaview, Wellington, formerly belonging to Colgate Palmolive.
Foodstuffs purchased the Barnes Street base last November, after AF Logistics’ lease at Todd Park in Porirua expired.
Marty Price, Foodstuffs property and retail development manager, says the move gives the logistics business increased certainty.
“AFL is responsible for Foodstuffs Wellington freight, logistics and storage; we needed a facility to reflect this and serve AFL’s size and needs,” he says.
Price describes the the base prior to the upgrades as being run down, and that a minimalist design approach was undertaken to transform the premises into a modern distribution hub.
Tse Architects and Holmes Construction carried out the alterations, with all superfluous components stripped back to express the functional elements of the building, and the new new extension wrapping around the existing warehouse, breathing new life into the site with its contemporary design.
Foodstuffs Properties will be the landlord to the property and AF Logistics are expected to begin their tenancy from the end of this month on an initial 18-year lease term, with two rights of renewal of a further 10 years each.
