Ford New Zealand has confirmed pricing for its upcoming Raptor version of the Ford Ranger – $84,990.
The special model rides on bespoke suspension, has unique styling, and is powered by a 2-litre turbocharged Diesel engine matched to a ten-speed automatic transmission.
“We’re unbelievably excited to confirm that the Ranger Raptor is coming to New Zealand in 2018,” says Simon Rutherford, managing director Ford New Zealand.
“The response to our announcement in September, and the interest from the global reveal back in February to bring it to market at such an affordable price only adds to the anticipation ahead of its arrival in local showrooms,” says Rutherford.
“Kiwis love the Ranger, and there have been calls for a vehicle like the Ranger Raptor for some time. The Ford design and engineering team has worked incredibly hard with Ford Performance on this truly unique program to deliver a product that will live up to the Raptor DNA, and the high expectations of New Zealanders.”
The Raptor is noticeably bigger, standing at 1873mm tall, 2180mm wide and 5398mm long, with wider front and rear tracks at 1710mm. Ground clearance is increased to 283mm, while the approach angle of 32.5-degrees, ramp over angle of 24-degrees, and departure angle of 24-degrees.
Under the bonnet is the biggest change, with a 2-litre bi-turbo four-cylinder diesel that out-powers the 3.2-litre five-cylinder unit in the regular ranger. It produces 157kW and 500Nm of torque and is paired to a 10-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The four-wheel drive system is part-time with a low-range transfer case.
Like the standard model, the Raptor gets Ford’s Sync3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety features include front, side and curtain airbags, electronic stability control and trailer sway control.
The Raptor gets the Terrain Management System already need in the Everest, with Normal, Sport, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Sand, Rock and Baja modes.
