The NZ Transport Agency is negotiating a new type of maintenance contract for the Southland state highway network with a partnership led by SouthRoads Ltd.
SouthRoads is the preferred supplier for the new $64.0 million network outcomes contract.
It will run over seven years and is designed to deliver greater efficiencies in terms of operation and costs, says the Transport Agency’s acting southern business manager Ian Duncan.
“The network outcomes contracts are a new way of doing business,” he says.
SouthRoads is a local Southland company that has evolved and developed over the last 20 years.
It formed a partnership with professional engineering services provider MWH and contracting companies Downer NZ Ltd, McDonough Contracting Ltd, and Carran Scott Contracting to deliver the new contract.
Duncan says the contract will be performance-based, with the focus being on the delivery of good quality outcomes for the network and all road users.
“SouthRoads have been working on the Northern Southland state highway network for the last seven years, undertaking the general maintenance and keeping roads safely operating during winter.
The company has established depots throughout the area and have a good working knowledge of the region.”
The new contract will take effect on March 1, 2016.
