In the February edition of TransportTalk we look at the transport industry’s response to the Government’s $6.8 billion road and rail funding announcement.
Leaders are welcoming the move to get more infrastructure built but say years have been wasted and some important projects are still in limbo.
TransportTalk also reports on new leadership appointments at Keith Andrews Trucks (KAT). This includes the arrival of Aaron Smith as group chief executive and Jason Chambers as dealer principal for its Whangarei dealership.
The moves aim to cement KAT’s top position as a Daimler dealership and includes the Auckland branch recently joining its Hamilton and Whangarei sites as a fully authorised sales, parts and service outlet for Mercedes-Benz trucks.
Meanwhile, Auckland Transport is set to begin consultation in April around new roading designs to accommodate car transporters along Auckland’s Great North Rd which is home to some of the largest dealerships in the country.
We speak with trucking operators and dealerships about the proposals which are still in the early stages with work expected to be complete by the end of 2020.
TransportTalk also speaks with Mercedes-Benz Vans Australia and New Zealand about the end of the X-Class after its short stint of sales. One dealership said it was sad to see the vehicle go and felt it was just starting to gain acceptance within the ute market.
Plus, automotive aftermarket business Bapcor Group aims for New Zealand expansion, Teletrac Navman partners with Semenoff Group, Auckland Transport investigates a fleetwide e-bus network and TMC Trailers Truck Show looks set for its biggest year yet.
