However, transport leaders are urging the Government to keep all freight moving to stop the ports from piling up and allow trucking companies to survive.

Meanwhile, the Government is kicking into recovery mode and promising billions to keep the economy afloat.

This includes $54 billion earmarked for land transport projects which will play a big part in supporting jobs during the current global headwinds.

Keeping essential air freight moving is another top priority for the Government and that comes with a $900 million loan to Air New Zealand.

The national airline has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic but remains a critical service keeping the country connected to major air freight channels for high priority goods such as pharmaceuticals and perishable products.

Volvo Group Australia will soon be shutting down its Wacol, Queensland plant for four weeks in response to the pandemic. The closure will take place on April 13 and work is set to resume on May 10.

Motor Trucks Distributor NZ (MTD), which distributes Mack and Volvo Trucks to the New Zealand market, says it does not expect the upcoming shutdown to significantly impact its customers.

Plus, the Government gives $100m to support the forestry sector, Infrastructure NZ  proposes recovery ideas, non-essential highway work is on hold and Mainfreight updates the industry on how its global supply chains are moving.
