In the July edition of TransportTalk, we celebrate the roll out of New Zealand’s first heavy electric refrigerated truck which has been put into Foodstuffs’ fleet with the help of funding from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA).

It follows on the heels of an all-electric LDV EV80 chiller van put on the road by New Zealand fishing company Sanford and a smaller electric refrigerated Countdown truck released last year.

Toll Group’s new purpose-built freight hub in Otahuhu is now fully operational after its official opening in April. The 33,480 square metre facility, located on the corner of Savill Drive and James Fletcher Drive, employs more than 200 people and is described as a leading logistics facility with a dedicated rail line built on the site.

This year’s Fieldays is now set to go online from July 13 to 26. We talk to dealers throughout the New Zealand vehicle industry to gauge what kind of impact the cancellation of this year’s Mystery Creek event has had on sales.

It’s been a busy few weeks for e-buses. TransportTalk looks at the nine new electric buses set to service the Auckland Airport Link built by Yutong with supply and support from New Zealand’s JW Group.

Plus, Dutch EV firm Ebusco and Australian Bus Corporation (Precisions Buses, Bustech) have announced a partnership to deliver and maintain e-buses in New Zealand and Australia.

Also in this month’s TransportTalk, CablePrice is opening a new Timaru branch to expand its Mercedes- Benz, Fuso and Freightliner sales, parts and service network; NZ Post has announced building plans for a new “super depot” in Wellington and the transport industry is set to benefit from a new scheme providing businesses with up to $16,000 for each apprentice they take on.

And don’t forget to take a look at our regular columns and statistics pages that keep you up-to-date with the latest industry trends.
