The ANZ Truckometer light traffic index fell 1% m/m in September, while the heavy traffic index fell 1.8% for the period.
On a year-on-year basis, light traffic is down 1.1% while heavy traffic is up 0.6%.
The trend in light traffic (motorbikes, cars and vans) is flat, matching overall economic activity as measured by GDP, but down in per capita terms.
“The overall signal regarding economic activity remains weak,” ANZ chief economist Sharon Zollner says.
