The award covers the Volvo FH, FM and FMX Electric models, which offer driving ranges of up to 470km depending on configuration and operating conditions.

Volvo says the updated line-up provides greater range and payload capacity, along with shorter charging times, compared with previous models.

The trucks are designed for regional transport, urban distribution, construction and utility work.

International Truck of the Year jury chairman Florian Engel says Volvo has expanded its battery-electric offering beyond individual vehicles and applications.

“The Volvo Trucks winning range represents a major evolution of its battery-electric heavy-duty offering,” Engel says.

“With the new electric range, the company demonstrates how quickly battery-electric heavy-duty transport is moving from individual applications towards a comprehensive transport solution.”

The jury highlighted Volvo’s use of different battery chemistries, driveline and battery-packaging arrangements, cab and chassis configurations, allowing trucks to be tailored for a variety of assignments.

It is Volvo’s eighth International Truck of the Year win and the second time the FH Electric has received the award, following its victory in 2024.

Volvo says about 7000 of its electric trucks have travelled a combined 500 million kilometres since 2019. Nearly 2000 customers across more than 50 countries now use the vehicles.

Five Volvo electric truck models are available in New Zealand, supported by the brand’s national dealer and after-sales network.

The International Truck of the Year jury comprises 24 commercial vehicle journalists from European trucking publications.

The annual award recognises a truck introduced to the market during the previous 12 months that has made a significant contribution to road transport efficiency.

Vehicles are judged on areas including innovation, comfort, safety, drivability, energy efficiency, environmental impact and total cost of ownership.
