Tractor registrations fell last month, but with rain on the way dealers will be hoping confidence returns to their markets.

Registrations of new tractors – which do not give a full representation of the market as not all units are complied for the road – were down 9,7% in match to 130 units, down from 144 the year before.

John Deere was the leading manufacturer on 50 units, a 38.6% share of the market, followed by New Holland on 17 and Case IH, Massey Ferguson and Tractor on 11 units each.

In the used import tractor market, 84 units were registered during the month, up 13.5% from 74 a year ago.

Massey Ferguson was most popular on 16 units, followed by John Deere on 14 and Tractor on nine.

Graham Anderson, Sales Manager at Giltrap AgriZone Otorohanga says much was quiet, but it has picked up since.

“March was pretty quiet but it has picked up over the last two weeks,” Anderson told DieselTalk. “We put that down to finally getting some heavy rain which has sparked some much needed confidence across the marketplace.”
