It’s the first full remodel of the heavy-duty truck in six years with sales expected to begin in Japan this year.

Customers in Australia and New Zealand will be watching with interest, but Fuso Truck and Bus Australia Pacific vice president Alex Müller says it’s still too early to confirm details or timing for the local market.

“These details will be finalised after the comprehensive local testing and evaluation making sure the specifications and applications perfectly match the unique requirements of the market.”

The next-generation Super Great (called Shogun in Australia and New Zealand) features a new 12.8-litre engine which has been optimised for increased torque, particularly at lower speeds.

The latest model also features an upgraded cab design with improved aerodynamic drag and a newly added super high roof with more room in the cab.

Advanced safety technology includes Active Brake Assist 6 (ABA6), the updated frontal collision mitigation system. Active Side Guard Assist 2.0, which detects hazards on both sides of the vehicle for turns and lane-changes, is also part of the standard product offering.

The last Shogun model entered the New Zealand market in 2019. This was soon followed with the top-of -the-range high power model delivering 510hp and 2500Nm of torque – the most powerful Japanese truck in our local market.

“The heavy-duty Shogun range is more popular than ever [in Australia and New Zealand] thanks to its safety, power and durability.

“We are excited to see the next-generation Super Great (called Shogun in Australia and New Zealand) revealed in Tokyo, which demonstrates that we are going further to bring state of art technology to our hard-working customers,” Müller says.
