Australian publication Caravan World is bestowing its 2016 Tow Car of the Year award upon the Ram 2500.

The magazine and website are putting the American vehicle ahead of all the traditional tow cars as the best choice to tow a caravan.

The Ram 2500 tested by Caravan World is imported directly from Ram’s North American factory by the Ateco Group and remanufactured in Australia by Walkinshaw Automotive (American Special Vehicles) to meet Australian Full Volume Compliance rules.

This process means it meets all the same safety and engineering requirements as other cars sold in Australia. In both New Zealand and Australia it is supported by a nationwide dealer network.

“The RAM is the stand-out of our ‘Top 5’ because it makes every other tow vehicle we’ve tested seem like toys. The RAM was a rock-solid towing platform,” says Caravan World.

“It towed a 2900kg caravan like it wasn’t even there. Hills didn’t slow the Ram and with its exhaust brakes, going downhill at a set speed without needing the brakes was easy,” says the publication.

“If you wanted the ultimate tow vehicle, this is it,” say the Caravan World judges.

For more than 45 years Caravan World has been inspiring Australians to travel to new places and remote locations with the confidence provided by the recommendations of its experts in all areas of caravans, towing and recreational vehicles.

More than 25,000 owners and users from across Australia participate in Caravan World’s social media channels and blogs, providing a wealth of advice and support for Australians planning ‘the big trip.’

The RAM 2500 heads a list of ten vehicles that have been benchmarked by Caravan World for their ability to tow in city stop-start driving, freeway cruising, hill climbing and descending and on rough secondary roads.

Ride smoothness, performance, stability and fuel economy are all considerations. Mirror design is assessed for suitability with the same mirror-mounted towing mirrors.

It determines the operational ease of coupling up the caravan, including the accessibility of the tow ball, trailer electrical connector and shackle eyelets.
