Renault has now taken the wraps off its latest Alaskan concept Ute which marks the first step forward in its bid to win over customers in the constantly-growing pick-up market.
The concept pick up will be based on the Nissan Navara and will adopt the same engine and bodywork as the NP300.
The Renault Alaskan follows in the footsteps of Mercedes Benz which announced earlier this year plans to partner with the Renault-Nissan alliance to develop a concept Ute using Renault-Nissan’s architecture also used on the Nissan Navara NP300.
According to Renault: “Pick-ups account for around one-third of total LCV sales and open up a fresh front for Renault’s product offensive.”
The Alaskan Concept Ute is powered by Renault’s four-cylinder, twin turbo diesel engine and combines a payload of one tonne.
The Ute can fit five passengers on-board and a long, wide load bed, which incorporates three longitudinal recesses suitable for fixing equipment. Additional storage bins either side of the load bed have been added for the secure protection of equipment.
